sq
The Stamic Quartet, one of Europe's leading chamber ensembles, was founded in Prague in 1985. Josef Kekula (violin) and Jan Peruška (viola)  were founder members, the cellist is Peter Hejný and the the leader of the quartet is the violinist Jindrich Pazdera. The quartet has toured and performed all over Europe, and in Canada and the USA. Their mumerous recordings include the complete Dvorak quartets and the chamber music of Martinu, both of which have earned them the 'Grand Prix du Disque' of the Academie Charles Cros in Paris. Their performances and recording of the works of Janacek and other central European masters are equally renowned.
Since 2000,  the Stamic Quartet have been organisers of the EuroArt music festival in Prague.

The Stamic Quartet continue what has now become a tradition by opening the 'Indian Summer in Levoca Festival', this year with a concert that partners Schumann's A minor Quartet with the lyrical D minor quartet of Dvorak and the nostalgic First Quartet of Charles Ives, based on hymn- and folk-tunes. On the following evening they partner Ivo Kahánek in Schumann's magnificent Piano Quintet, and also play quartets by Smetana and Schulhoff.
